When removing mold from an affected area, the appropriate remediation approach is determined by the type of materials involved. Non-porous materials, such as glass, metal, and plastic, can generally be cleaned and disinfected effectively, as they are less susceptible to permanent damage from mold growth. In contrast, porous materials, including drywall, insulation, carpet, and ceiling tiles, may be too severely damaged by mold to be effectively salvaged. These materials often need to be removed and discarded of to ensure that the mold is completely eradicated and to prevent future contamination.
